Number of vegetable establishments- Vegetable growers without an Australian Business Number and farms with a value of operation below $5,000 remain out of scope in recording the number of vegetable growers.
- The number of farms on which vegetables were grown rose to 5,956 in 2009/10 but remains below the number of growers in 2007/08 and 8.6% lower than in 2005/06.
- However the number of farms where vegetable growing is the principal activity continued to fall, down to 4,355 in 2009/10 compared to 4,489 in 2008/09.
- No data was collected in 2009/10 on the breakdown between undercover and outdoor vegetable growers or the number of growers producing vegetable or potato seed.
