The Hort Connections 2022 conference will once again incorporate unparalleled networking opportunities for everybody in the horticulture supply chain; a trade show showcasing leading local and global businesses; and world-class speakers.

A number of speakers have been announced for this year’s conference, including Anita Long.

In 2020, Anita was awarded a Hort Innovation-sponsored Churchill Fellowship to investigate development programs overseas for young beekeepers that are scalable to an Australian context.

This will help Anita to build more connected and replicable youth programs here in Australia. However, the pandemic and other world events have delayed her travel, which will include the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia and the United Kingdom.

Anita is a passionate recreational beekeeper, with a focus on engaging youth in beekeeping and building a strong connected youth beekeeping network in Australia. She is the founder of Tasmanian Junior Beekeepers, a not-for-profit organisation formed in 2017 as a way of giving children access to beekeeping in a safe and inclusive environment.

In 2019, Anita received the Tasmanian Women in Agriculture’s Encouragement Award at the AgriFutures Rural Women’s Awards and attended the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers, which was held in Slovakia. In 2020, she initiated and hosted the first national youth beekeeping event.
