The generation of pesticide residue, efficacy and crop safety data is required to support label registration and minor use permit applications made to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) that, when approved, provides access to safe and effective chemicals for the management of pests, weeds and diseases.

As part of two ongoing Hort Innovation-funded projects, the APVMA has approved the BASF Label extension for Versys insecticide for various aphids and whitefly, which includes new use in sweet corn, strawberries (field and protected cropping), rhubarb and artichoke plus expanded pests in ornamentals and approved uses in protected cropping for fruiting vegetables, including cucurbits.

The efficacy and residue data was generated under Generation of data for pesticide applications in horticulture crops 2018 (ST17000), as well as, Generation of Residue, Efficacy & Crop Safety Data for Pesticide Applications in Horticulture Crops 2017 (ST16006) – both strategic levy investments under the Hort Innovation Vegetable Fund.
