The Portelli family has been growing vegetables in the Sydney suburb of Maroota for two generations, on a farm situated on a sandy loam.

Their operation is relatively high-intensity, not allowing time to grow cover crops, and traditionally, poultry manure has been used to supplement the soil’s low organic matter.

The Portellis have turned to a recycled organics compost product (ANL Greenlife) as another method of introducing organic matter into their cropping system.
