Harvest to Home, funded by Hort Innovation, is an interactive online dashboard that provides users with up-to-date retail information and consumer trend data on a range of vegetable commodities on a single platform.

All of the data is provided by Nielsen and is collated through their Homescan® service, a continuous panel of 10,000 Australian households.

The dashboard’s latest COVID-19 fresh produce update analyses the 2020 COVID-19 driven consumer trends for fresh produce and compares the aggregate performance across 2020 with the previous two years for fresh fruit and vegetables.

Key highlights at an annual level for 2020 include:

• Bigger baskets, increased frequency and an increase in the repertoire of fresh produce shops visited.

• Vegetables achieved a three-year volume growth high up 7.6% against previous year.

• Fruit volume down by 4.7% against previous year.

• Higher unit prices – fruit and veg up 12.9% and 5.3% compared to previous year.

• Victoria, burdened with the longest period of lockdown, contributed the most to produce growth
