Serpentine leafminer is a harmful new pest that has arrived in the country and has established itself in some vegetable growing regions in New South Wales and Queensland, with the potential to spread further in the coming months.

What is it? What damage does it cause? How can I know if it is on my farm?

All these questions and more will be answered in an upcoming one-hour webinar, hosted by AUSVEG and FMC, from 2pm (AEDT) on Thursday 28 January.

During this webinar, four industry and scientific experts of serpentine leafminer will each present on the insect, covering all the areas that you need to know so you can manage this important new pest.

They will explain the nature of the pest and the broad range of crops that it attacks, including potatoes, lettuce, brassica and other valuable commodities.

Hear from US-based speaker, FMC Global Technology Manager Dr Billy Annan as he discusses the impact serpentine leafminer has had on crops throughout North America and other countries, the experience of managing it, and the lessons learnt.

This webinar will also feature presentations from AUSVEG Biosecurity Officer Maddy Quirk, who will talk about the pest’s biology; Cesar Australia Research Scientist (Entomology) Dr Elia Pirtle, who will discuss surveillance and monitoring; and Bugs for Bugs Entomologist and Director Dan Papacek, who will explore integrated pest management options.

There will be a Q&A session after the short presentations.
