SUMMARY:Stakeholder discussion: Charter of Good Shipping Practices for efficient and fair fresh produce logistics
DESCRIPTION:Six years after the COVID-19 pandemic rocked the global economy\, disrupting supply chains and logistics systems worldwide\, the fresh produce industry continues to face systemic volatility: shifting trade flows\, geopolitical shocks\, and unpredictable regulatory environments. These stresses affect shipping rates\, capacity\, reliability\, and the integrity of perishable cargo. \nRoundtable discussions organized by the Global Coalition of Fresh Produce since early 2025 have indicated that there is an urgent need for increased transparency and predictability in dealings between all actors in global logistics of fresh fruits and vegetables. A common language\, clear and stable pricing\, fair contract terms\, and transparent service conditions are prerequisites for sustainable\, resilient supply chains that can endure these trying times. \nThe Global Coalition of Fresh Produce is taking the discussion to the next step. We are inviting all stakeholders involved in fresh produce supply chains to join us in the formulation of a charter of good shipping practices: a fundamental\, structural set of shared values\, principles\, or guidelines to underpin\, guide\, and support behaviour and processes throughout logistics chains. Upholding the central principles of collaboration\, transparency\, and integrity\, the charter will foster mutual understanding\, build trust\, and strengthen partnerships among trading partners. By offering a common language\, the charter will begin to break down silos and align actions with the shared goal of efficient and resilient global logistics chains\, with less waste and fair rewards for everyone.

SUMMARY:Hort Innovation Impact Update
DESCRIPTION:As production costs and challenges increase\, it’s more important than ever to support growers with the knowledge\, tools and insights they need to make informed decisions and remain viable and competitive. \nHort Connections is a place that brings all of this together. For the first time\, Hort Innovation is helping more growers get there by subsidising 100 growers to attend Hort Connections in Adelaide in June through free grower tickets\, along with support for travel and accommodation. This is so they can access the research and development insights and capability‑building opportunities that inform confident\, practical decisions on farm in a fast‑changing environment. \nCentral to this opportunity is the inaugural Hort Innovation Impact Update – an event designed specifically for growers that will take place the afternoon before Hort Connections – and registrations are now open! \nHosted by Hort Innovation\, the Impact Update will bring together growers\, researchers and industry leaders to share practical insights\, real‑world outcomes and examples of innovation that are helping growers navigate current challenges and plan for the future. \nAcross the three‑hour event\, growers will: \n\nHear directly from growers who are turning R&D into real‑world outcomes\nExplore practical tools and innovations they can apply on farm\nTake part in open discussion and knowledge exchange\nSee how Hort Innovation’s investments are delivering impact from DNA to plate

SUMMARY:TAS: Getting seed right: Managing potato seed for optimal crop performance
DESCRIPTION:Join PotatoLink for a day at Cherry Hill Coolstores to learn about all things seed! Cherry Hill Coolstores have the capacity to handle 15\,000 tonnes of seed potatoes per annum across their 16 coolstores and three large dry store areas. They provide services including cool storage\, grading\, potato seed\, cutting and bulk unloading. \nDuring our visit\, Cherry Hill will take us on a tour\, demonstrating the different stages of their supply chain and best practices of seed storage and handling. \nDesigned for all members of the seed potato supply chain\, this event will seek to enhance foundational knowledge on potato seed processes\, certification\, handling\, hygiene\, storage and physiological age. \nParticipants will leave the session having explored: \n\nProcesses through the seed supply chain (seeing it from diverse perspectives)\nRisks and challenges that affect seed performance through the seed supply chain\nBest practices relating to seed certification\, storage\, physiological age management and seed treatments\nImportance of best practices on seed performance\nActions that participants can take to address key risks through their seed supply chain

SUMMARY:Webinar: Next Generation Weed Management - Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation
DESCRIPTION:A sustainable approach for weed and soil-borne pathogen management in plasticulture. \nAn in-depth look at Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation (ASD)\, an emerging non-chemical strategy for managing weeds and soil-borne pathogens in plasticulture systems. \nLa Trobe are pleased to welcome Associate Professor Matthew Cutulle (Clemson University\, USA)\, a leading expert in weed science\, who will share insights into the application and potential of ASD in horticultural production. \nASD works by incorporating a carbon source into soil\, irrigating to field capacity\, and covering the soil to create anaerobic conditions that suppress weeds and pathogens. As pressure grows to reduce reliance on chemical control\, ASD is gaining attention as a practical and scalable alternative. \nAt LISAF\, part of La Trobe University\, Dr Ali Bajwa leads the Hort Frontiers program “Next Generation Weed Management”. The project is focused on evaluating the performance of ASD in Australian plasticulture systems. The project integrates field surveys\, controlled environment and field trials\, and industry engagement to optimise the technique and support adoption\, in collaboration with Northern Territory Department of Agriculture & Fisheries and Clemson University. \nWho should attend:\nGrowers\, agronomists\, and industry professionals working in plasticulture systems producing crops such as strawberries\, vegetables\, and melons\, along with researchers\, extension officers\, and consultants exploring non-chemical weed management approaches. \nThe session will run for 1 hour\, followed by 20 to 30 minutes of Q&A.
