SUMMARY:Werribee: Manage pest and disease risk on farm using technology
DESCRIPTION:Drop in when it suits\, or lock in your spot – register here. \nVisitors can unknowingly bring pests\, diseases and weeds onto a farm. Dirty boots\, vehicles\, or farm supplies could carry unwelcome hitchhikers – which can have potentially devastating impacts. \nAUSVEG and Onside are evaluating how digitised farm visitor management can support decision making and return to trade when a new pest arrives. Vegetable growers\, field staff and agronomists can sign up and access Onside for free. \nDrop in to learn how you can use Onside to: \nDigitally map your farm\nCreate and share a live map of your property – an Onside product specialist will be onsite to help get you set up. \nAutomate visitor notifications\nGrowers receive live visitor notifications\, no matter where they are\, or how many entrances. Field staff can automatically let growers know that they’ve arrived. \nCapture high risk biosecurity movements\nVisitors can record plant material\, machinery and equipment movements on and off your property. \nContribute to real-time tracing\nShare an anonymised view of check-in movement data on and off farm with AUSVEG. \nAccess pest and disease updates\nPick up resources and free sticky traps to learn about emerging pests such as Fall armyworm and Tomato potato psyllid \nSee Onside in action\nLearn first hand how Redbank Farm is using Onside to manage their visitors and biosecurity. \n  \nThank you to Werribee for hosting the event. \nFor more info contact:\nRosalie Daniel\n0432 842 794\nrosalie.daniel@ausveg.com.au \nwww.getonside.com/ausveg \n  \nAgriculture Victoria’s food safety team will be onsite from 1:00pm to 2:00pm to answer any questions growers may have on the new Food Safety Standards. Information on that session can be found here. \n  \nThis project been funded by Hort Innovation using the vegetable research and development levy and funds from Australian Government.

SUMMARY:Optimising Fertiliser Use: Demonstration Trial Walk in North Motton (TAS)
DESCRIPTION:Join PotatoLink for a field walk at the PotatoLink Tasmanian demonstration site\, where they are exploring ways to optimise fertiliser practices for potato crops. The demonstration is focused on: \n\nEvaluating the impact of different fertiliser rates and timings (pre-spread\, at planting\, and top-dress) on potato crop yield (marketable tuber weight)\, quality (size distribution\, defects and specific gravity).\nCompare a crop sampling-based fertiliser program with a conventional fertiliser program to determine their effectiveness in optimising fertiliser use and profitability over a single growing season.\n\nDuring the field walk\, you will hear about the strategies employed\, view and discuss the crop sampling results to date and understand how these results are shaping the fertiliser program\, and its impact on productivity. \nYou can read more about the demonstration trial here. \nContact: \nFor more information\, please contact Tim Walker\, Regional Representative\, PotatoLink\, tim.walker@potatolink.com.au or 0439 333 811 or Sophia Thach\, Applied Horticultural Research\, sophia.thach@ahr.com.au or 0413 937 313. \nThe field walk will kick off with a BBQ lunch\, registration is essential for catering purposes.

SUMMARY:Nitrogen inhibitors and responsive fertiliser programs: Demonstration Trial Walk in Dean
DESCRIPTION:Join PotatoLink for a field walk at the PotatoLink Victorian demonstration site\, where they are exploring ways to optimise fertiliser practices for potato crops. The demonstration is focused on: \n\nEvaluate the impact of using Nitrogen Inhibitor base fertilisers at different rates on potato crop yield (marketable tuber weight)\, quality (size distribution\, defects and specific gravity)\, and gross margins.\nCompare a crop sampling-based responsive fertiliser program with a conventional fertiliser program to determine their effectiveness in optimising fertiliser use and profitability over a single growing season\n\nDuring the field walk\, you will hear about the strategies employed\, view and discuss the crop sampling results to date and understand how these results are shaping the fertiliser program\, and its impact on productivity. \nYou can read more about the demonstration trial here.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Diversifying with agritourism - is it for me\, and what's it all about?
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Allison Clark\nAgritourism has been identified as a priority across Australia to strengthen rural and regional economies.  Agritourism is gaining popularity\, and many farmers are diversifying into this sector.  Many see that Tasmania can be the agritourism destination for Australia. \nThis Lunch & Learn session will help you learn more about why agritourism is an important part of Tasmania’s visitor economy and what visitors are looking for.  You will learn more about what is important to consider knowing if it is an option for you. \nFarmers and Resilient Farming Tas Program participants have shared a lot with us over recent months\, including topics of interest to them.\nIn response\, we have been hosting an ongoing Tuesday Lunch and Learn Webinar Series. Timed for 45 minutes\, the first half of the webinar will focus on a knowledge exchange\, with an opportunity for you to then have a Q&A with the experts. These events are FREE to attend and will guide you through resources and tools available through the RFT Program.\nAll webinars have been recorded with access via the Google Classroom for participants.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Lessons learnt from a career as a Farm Adviser
DESCRIPTION:David Harbison (D R Agriculture) will reflect on his experiences and pass on his thoughts of ‘key lessons’ he learnt in his younger days\, and how those lessons set a path to where he is today. His passion for soil and plant science is a key strength. \nThat passion remains strong\, as does his relationships with many professionals and soil scientists which are a constant resource for David and provide a connection to the current research. The value of those relationships is critical to “getting the best out of experts” and David encourages all soil scientists and experts listening to be open to helping our ‘next generation’. Social discussion is as important as the detail. \nYou MUST register to attend the FREE webinar and/or gain access to the recording if you are unable to attend on the day.

SUMMARY:Impacts of Varroa Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The National Varroa Mite Management Program are hosting a webinar to provide insights into the impacts of Varroa destructor on the honeybee and pollination dependent industries. The webinar will also include an introduction to the National Transition to Management Program and what they are doing to help these industries learn to live in this new state of play. \nVarroa (destructor) mite was first detected in NSW in June 2022\, activating what became the largest Australian multi-agency plant biosecurity emergency response\, running for around 20 months until the February 2024 decision to move to transition to management of the mite. \nOn this webinar you will hear from National Varroa T2M Coordinator Tamara Prentice\, along NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development bee and industry experts Elizabeth Frost\, Nadine Chapman\, and Rebecca Sloan. \nThis webinar is FREE to attend and will be recorded. \nLink to join the webinar will be provided to registered attendees.
