Development and promotion of IPM strategies for silverleaf whitefly in vegetables
Silverleaf whitefly (SLW) biotype B is a major horticultural pest that costs producers millions of dollars in lost production and control measures. The pest has developed resistance to many insecticides, therefore an integrated strategy is essential for sustainable whitefly management. The project focussed on developing integrated management strategies for SLW and addressed the key industry issues including effective biological control systems and insecticide resistance management. Emphasis was given to integrating the biological control agent with compatible pesticides and implementing a suitable integrated pest management IPM) program at farm level. This provides growers with a sustainable and commercially viable IPM program for silverleaf whitefly and insecticide resistance management.
