Women’s Grower Study Tour 2013
1 January 2013Revegetation by design, Queensland: natural resource management and IPM
20 March 2013The aim of this project was to develop and investigate two retro-fit irrigation technology systems to improve water and energy consumption during vegetable production, with trials conducted over three growing seasons (2010-2012). The first retro-fit irrigation system was fitted to a travelling gun irrigator to improve both energy and water efficiency. In addition, the project aimed to develop and demonstrate a retro-fit variable rate irrigation system for a linear move irrigator that enabled communication with a network of soil moisture sensors across the field (provided by CSIRO ICT). The overall aim of the project was to provide growers with options which will allow them to improve water use efficiency, reduce energy costs and reduce environmental impact.
This project has been funded by Hort Innovation, using the research and development levies listed below and contributions from the Australian Government. Hort Innovation is the grower-owned, not-for-profit research and development corporation for Australian horticulture.
