On 11 March 2021, the Australian Government announced that the International Freight Assistance Mechanism (IFAM) program will be extended to the end of September 2021, to keep global air links open, despite the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The IFAM extension comes as part of the new round of funding to support Australia’s aviation and tourism sectors announced by Prime Minister. The announcement is giving Australian businesses reliant on airfreight extra time to adapt to the new international trade environment.

The extension of IFAM will continue to provide airfreight support for Australian businesses and ensure the aviation sector is supported until the COVID-19 vaccine rollout is well underway; retaining Australia’s reputation as a reliable global trading partner.

By keeping key airfreight routes open, IFAM is providing Australian businesses disproportionately affected by COVID-19 time to adapt their business models, adjust to a new and tougher trading environment and preserve jobs.
