A novel Tobamovirus has been detected in snake gourd samples collected during vegetable surveys in the Darwin region.

This virus is new to science and has not been recorded anywhere in the world.

Tobamoviruses are not harmful to humans but can have major impacts on the production of many vegetable crops.
