Cucurbit vegetables include cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, squash, watermelons, cantaloupes, bitter melons, gourds and hairy melons. Cucurbits are warm weather crops which are grown in frost-free time periods in many areas of Australia. Wherever cucurbits are grown, pests can cause damage. This fact sheet outlines the pests that commonly affect cucurbit production. Most of the insect pests listed can affect other crops as well, although some insect pests are specific to cucurbits. Photographs and descriptions of the insect pests and of the symptoms of damage are also shown in this fact sheet.
