25 March 2018The March/April 2018 edition of Vegetables Australia magazine is now available online, and offers some great insights into vegetable consumption in Australia and how growers can reduce their waste as well as get produce to some of Australia’s most needy.
In a highlight article, we spoke to three growers about their experience in donating to Foodbank Australia, which combats hunger in Australia by distributing over 37 million kilograms of food and groceries to those in need – the equivalent of 183,000 meals every day. These growers (representing Fresh Select in Werribee VIC, Phantom Produce in far north Queensland and Magarey Orchard in Coromandel Valley SA) offer great insights into why and how donating to Foodbank benefits their business, the broader industry and our society. Foodbank is always in need of fresh produce to help provide health meals to those in need, so to find out more about how you can donate, visit the Foodbank website.
The magazine also includes interviews with Hort Innovation‘s David Moore and grower Chris Schreurs from Schreurs & Sons speaking about the levy-funded Harvest to Home dashboard, which delivers data about consumers’ vegetable purchasing behaviours and preferences. The information on the dashboard is available for free online, so take a look to see what it can offer your business!
As well as these articles, there’s the same huge range of industry news and research and development content that we feature in every edition of the magazine. We also profile Carl Walker, vegetable grower and President of the Bowen Gumlu Growers Association, and young grower Samantha Lizars from Bulmer Farms in Victoria (pictured above).
