30 January 2018It is vital that preventive biosecurity practices are strictly maintained on-farm to protect Australia and our vegetable and potato industries from exotic pests that could impact productivity and profitability.
Potato grower David Nix, who runs NixPax in far north Queensland, understands the constant risk of unwanted plant pests and diseases that can instantly devastate his livelihood, from tomato potato psyllid and fire ants to fruit flies and golden cyst nematode.
To help protect his crops from these and other risks, David has a comprehensive on-farm biosecurity plan that includes fundamental practices like buying certified seed, paddock rotation and maintaining populations of beneficial insect species on his property.
