The International Freight Assistance Mechanism (IFAM) has had an additional $240 million in funding committed by government to extend the program until the end of the year.

This extension brings the total funding government has now committed to IFAM to $350 million, and is expected to assist $3 billion of exports by December 2020.

The IFAM program has already assisted more than 1,800 flights to deliver 36,000 tonnes of agri-produce to over 50 international markets, valued at $1 billion.

Key notes:

• Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham stated, “This funding extension will provide ongoing certainty for our exporters who rely on air freight and will help to protect the tens of thousands of jobs of those who rely upon on our export sector”.
• Further details on the ongoing arrangements for IFAM are expected to be released shortly.
• IFAM has indicated that an industry briefing will be held in the coming days to provide a detailed update on the extension. AUSVEG will forward the details of this briefing to vegetable grower-exporters when they are available.
