13 January 2026AUSVEG Advocacy Update: Nationwide advertising campaign to give vegetable growers a boost
3 February 2026PIRSA on 16 January 2026 advised of a new Queensland fruit fly outbreak in Elizabeth East, South Australia, after 5 adult male fruit flies were found in monitoring traps. The expected end date is 8 April 2026 unless further detections extend this date.
Check the fruit fly outbreak map to check if you live, work or travel through any of the affected areas, and what you need to do.
Growers in the red outbreak or yellow suspension zones, including the overlap between the Glynde and Elizabeth East outbreaks, must obtain approvals from PIRSA Market Access staff before moving produce. For more information:
- visit sa.gov.au/industry-support/growers
- call the dedicated Fruit Fly Industry Hotline on 1800 255 556
- email the Market access team at marketaccessmetrooutbreakaaslocal@sa.gov.au
Residents in the red outbreak zone cannot move restricted home-grown fruit and vegetables from their property and they must not compost unwanted restricted produce. Instead, it should be placed in the green organics bin for the duration of the outbreak.
Communities can help break the fruit fly life cycle by ensuring home gardens are tidy, picking up fallen fruit off the ground, and disposing of any unwanted produce in the green bin. Learn more about preventing fruit fly in your garden.
