31 August 2021Serpentine leafminer (SLM Lyriomyza huidobrensis) has been detected in the Lockyer Valley in recent weeks.
There have been multiple reports of leafminers in crops across region; however, SLM can only be identified from other leafminers through molecular diagnostics.
Crops are affected by SLM through damage to the leaves, which impacts on crop growth and yield or reduces marketability for leafy vegetables.
AUSVEG has a range of resources available to assist with monitoring and managing this pest:
- RD&E Program for control, eradication and preparedness for Vegetable Leafminer (MT16004) information and resources page.
- Leafminer management guide. Email science@ausveg.com.au for a serpentine leafminer monitoring guide.
- Stay up to date with biosecurity news by subscribing to The Front Line Biosecurity Bulletin.
Growers in the Lockyer Valley are urged to contact John Duff on 0418 726 597 if you are seeing leafminers in crops.
