As a maintenance electrician, it is your responsibility to maintain and upkeep all electrical systems in the business.
You will be working on large and small circuit systems that will require attention to detail when fixing and altering systems.
You will need to work independently and be proactive to repair machinery to ensure the production lines are back in operation as soon as possible.
Core tasks
- Assist with maintenance and continuous improvement of the equipment.
- Ensure equipment is operating at high efficiency during peak season and manage breakdowns.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment in the off-season.
- Examine blueprints, wiring diagrams and specifications to determine sequences and methods of operation.
- Measure and layout installation reference points.
- Select, cut, and connect wire and cable to terminals and connectors.
- Use electrical and electronic test instruments to trace and diagnose faults.
- Repair and replace faulty wiring and defective parts.
- Position and instal electrical switchboards.
- Connect electrical systems to power supply.
- Test continuity of circuit.
- Install, test, and adjust electric and mechanical parts of lifts.
- Install, test, and commission solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems.

Due to the technical nature of this field, most occupations require formal study, such as:
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician
- Certificate IV in Electrotechnology – Systems Electrician
- Certificate III in Engineering – Industrial Electrician
