Young growers tour to New Zealand

Project report
Industry development and communication and People

The 2011 Young Growers’ Tour to New Zealand saw nine Australian participants visit vegetable growing regions in the North Island of New Zealand. They visited vegetable growers, packers, merchants, and market wholesalers, as well as attended the Horticulture New Zealand Conference in Rotorua. This tour provided opportunities for growers to undertake formal development programs while building their skillset and knowledge base so that they can be active in building a stronger future for the Australian vegetable industry. Another key element was that the growers were able to compare production systems, including costs and profits, with their New Zealand counterparts as well as with members of the global horticulture industry by attending the 2011 Horticulture New Zealand Conference.
