Podcast: The drone is no longer just a toy

Podcast
Technology and On-farm and crop management

Drones are becoming an increasingly popular tool for precision agriculture on vegetable farms, but are you aware of the relevant rules, regulations and responsibilities when using them?

Tune in to this podcast from the Soil Wealth ICP project to find out more about using drones in the horticulture industry.

In this podcast, John Coulombe, Head of Training and Development at Complete AUV and the Virtual Drone Academy, provides valuable information and sound advice regarding the rules, regulations and responsibilities for those using drones in the horticultural industry.

John has spent over eight years working in horticulture and, since branching out into drone training and consulting, has worked for the Australian Defence Force, Burnett Mary Regional Group, Growcom and MLA, among other businesses and individuals. For further details go to the drontrainingsolutions.com.au website.

NOTE: It is now an offence to fly an unregistered remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), commonly referred to as a drone, for anything other than sport or recreation. The fine is up to $11,100.

Registration is quickly and easily arranged through the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) website: https://www.casa.gov.au/drones/register

This podcast is brought to you by the SWICP2 project which has been funded by Hort Innovation using the vegetable and potato research and development levy and contributions from the Australian Government. Hort Innovation is the grower-owned, not-for-profit research and development corporation for Australian horticulture.
