24 January 2018As South Australian grower Aaron Haby puts it, when it comes to modern potato production, “Luck and crossing your fingers isn’t good enough these days.” It’s vital to stay informed and learn if you’re doing things the right way or the wrong way.
The levy-funded study tours that visit overseas industries give Australian growers the chance to look at how other growers do things differently (or the same), and help our industry benchmark its own success and production methods against our overseas equivalents.
As part of the tour attending the 2012 World Potato Congress in Scotland, Aaron was able to visit potato-growing operations and other industry sites in Europe and Great Britain, giving him an insight into the retail, R&D and production aspects of the European industry.
To read about the lessons Aaron took away from his tour, including the differences in product quality and ideas about seed storage, check out the latest edition of Grower Success Stories – Real results from the potato R&D levy.
PT10702 World Potato Congress Grower Tour – Scotland was funded by Hort Innovation using the fresh potato and potato processing research and development levies and contributions from the Australian Government. Hort Innovation is the grower-owned, not-for-profit research and development corporation for Australian horticulture. |
