This project demonstrates for the first time in Australia that area wide management (AWM) of Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) is possible in a major horticultural production area where the fruit fly is a year round endemic pest. The aims of this project were to improve fruit fly control and market access opportunities for all fruit fly host commodities grown in the district. The recommended AWM strategies have been well supported by the Central Burnett community with 90% of growers and 89% of town property owners becoming involved in the program.
