Grower awareness of the philosophy of the integrated pest management principles has improved in response to a planned extension programme. As part of the programme two IPM videos have been produced and distributed to growers. Pest and disease activity on a wide range of crops with advice on their management have been the topic of daily radio and newspaper report. The programme is aimed at reducing insect and disease pressure and reliance on chemical controls by improving cultural practices, strategic chemical usage and encouraging biological control, where possible.
