Successful and consistent use of Target spot was achieved by using an integrated management strategy based on crop monitoring which resulted in an overall reduction in the level of spray applications by upto 63%. This research project examined ways of improving the management of foliar blights on potatoes by testing various strategies, such as varying spray initiation and intervals and fungicides to determine the most effective control program. Very little Late blight occurred during this time, so the emphasis was on controlling Target spot. A Potato Crop Management Program (WISDOM) developed by the University of Wisconsin was tested in South Australia and Tasmania as a tool to control Target spot in potatoes.
