This report details the research and development undertaken to optimize irradiation procedures used to sterilize mass-reared Queensland fruit flies used in sterile insect technique programs in Australia. Laboratory studies were conducted to develop improved quality control procedures, to assess the performance of flies irradiated under current protocols and to identify opportunities to enhance SIT efficacy through optimization of irradiation procedures.
