28 April 2020Steve Allie: Grower focus on weeds reaps rewards
5 May 2020Weeds are a persistent problem for many vegetable producers in Australia.
Although the economic impact of weeds on Australian vegetable production has been estimated at the national level, information on the farm level economic impacts of weeds in this industry is limited.
As reported in the Autumn edition of Vegetables Australia magazine, a case study assessment of the farm-level economic impacts of weeds in vegetable production was completed as part of a broader Hort Innovation-funded weed management project.
The assessment focused on a range of weed management practices that have potential for more widespread industry adoption.
Recently, the University of New England produced a final report on the project that can be accessed via the InfoVeg database.
This is the first time a detailed economic analysis of weed impact and management has been completed at the farm-level in Australia’s vegetable industry.
