Guide to Understanding and Managing Bacterial Diseases Affecting Australian Vegetable Crops
3 February 2025Webinar: Pest and beneficial identification for vegetable IPDM presentation
5 February 2025In December 2024, plant disease pathologist Dr Len Tesoriero from Crop Doc Consulting presented on the identification of vegetable crop diseases at a practical workshop to growers and agronomists in the Sydney Basin.
Rerecorded here for those who weren’t able to attend, Dr Tesoriero’s presentation offers a guide for vegetable crop advisors, agronomists and growers on effective ways to recognise if vegetable plant symptoms are caused by a pathogenic disease, differentiate between diseases that may have similar symptoms, ascertain where the disease may have originated, and best practice monitoring and diagnostics methods, controls and managements.
Virus, bacteria, mold, fungi, plasmodiophorids (e.g., clubroot), stramenopiles (e.g., pythium & downy) and nematodes are explained in the context of NSW vegetable crops.
The presentation also covered the importance of recognising disease complexes, monitoring for pest insects that vector certain diseases, and controlling weeds that can act as hosts for both disease and vectoring insects.
