Sterile fruit flies contribute to reduction in QLD fruit fly population
Hort Innovation has revealed the first results of the SITPlus Pilot which involved releasing sterile fruit flies each week from a plane in Hillston, New South Wales and Cobram, Victoria.
In Cobram, the sterile fruit fly releases contributed to an 83 per cent reduction in Queensland fruit fly activity, while in Hillston, initial analysis indicates that wild Queensland fruit fly were detected in very low numbers in town and almost undetected on nearby farms.
