South Australian vegetable and potato growers will once again have a united and effective voice in their home state, following the launch of AUSVEG SA.

“AUSVEG SA has been established due to the prolonged absence of a state-wide representative body, and member of national body AUSVEG. It will maintain a strong South Australian presence to effectively advocate for local vegetable and potato growers,” said AUSVEG National Marketing Manager Simon Coburn.

AUSVEG is the leading horticultural body representing Australia’s 9,000 vegetable and potato growers.

“AUSVEG’s goals are to ramp up the advocacy effort on behalf of South Australian growers with state and local governments to ensure they have proper representation on key issues as well as effective dialogue into the R&D process,” said Mr Coburn.

“Over the coming months, we will be consulting heavily with South Australian growers on issues facing the industry, and aim to extend the successful model of industry representation AUSVEG has demonstrated at the national level.”

Mr Jordan Brooke-Barnett has been appointed to the role of AUSVEG State Manager – South Australia and has spent considerable time working with vegetable producers throughout South Australia in his previous role managing the highly-successful EnviroVeg Program.

He will be based at the AUSVEG SA regional office in Littlehampton, in the Adelaide Hills, but will also spend plenty of time in the field, listening to growers about the issues that matter to them.

“I look forward to working with regional groups and the vegetable and potato growers of South Australia, to bring about greater recognition of the importance of the industry with consumers and government,” said Mr Brooke-Barnett.

“AUSVEG runs a number of programs to assist industry, and I look forward to delivering a number of services including export assistance, minor use permits and state government representation.”
