For an emerging grower, there are tons of problems to tackle including pests and diseases, irrigation system failure and market crashes.

But the biggest problem of all is lack of experience.

For Enoch X, getting started growing cucumbers, flat beans, basil and parsley in Kemps Creek, New South Wales, was a huge learning curve.

Through trial, error and perseverance, Enoch said it took him a long time to actually understand correct growing practices.

Eventually, he discovered specialist horticulturalists and now attend events organised by AUSVEG, VegNET and the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI).

One thing he has definitely learnt from these resources is good sanitation, which he says helps prevent a lot of problems.
