Series of government webinars to explain country of origin labelling
Government changes to mandatory country of origin labelling on food products now have less than six months before they come into full effect, following the two-year transition period after the regulations commenced on 1 July 2016.
All food products packaged from 1 July 2018 must display the new labels to ensure they comply with these regulations.
To help small-to-medium businesses from the food and agribusiness sector understand their obligations and what they need to do before these regulations come into full effect, the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science will be holding a series of webinars covering the following topics:
- 27 March 2018: Understanding the requirements (12:30pm AEDT)
- 10 April 2018: The new labels (12:30pm AEST)
- 24 April 2018: Putting it into practice (12:30pm AEST)
You can also read more information about the new country of origin labelling standards online, including how you can design your own labels or use an online tool to generate labels for you.
If you grow and/or supply fresh produce and would like more information about how country of origin labelling applies to you and your business, and whether or not these new labelling standards affect you, we strongly encourage you to email originlabelling@industry.gov.au or call 13 28 46.
