Downy mildew caused by Bremia lactucae Regel is a major disease of lettuce that occurs in most lettuce growing areas of the world. The disease has been controlled by the use of resistant cultivars and the application of fungicides, but cultivar resistance has broken down and the development of isolates of B.lactucae insensitive to acylalanine fungicides has resulted in poor control in many areas. This study was undertaken to evaluate a range of fungicides for the control of B.lactucae as in Australia resistant cultivars are not widely used and resistance to acylalanine fungicides has recently been established.
