This item is Issue 3 of the “Silverleaf whitefly Project Update” dated May 2009. It reports on the silverleaf whitefly (SLW) Integrated Pest Management (IPM) project and keeps vegetable growers and industry informed on the latest news regarding SLW. A new whitefly, known as Bemisia tabaci Q biotype, that is closely related to silverleaf whitefly (B biotype) has been found in Queensland veegtable crops. Overseas, Q biotype has developed high resistance levels to insect growth regulators (IGRs) and neonicotinoids (eg imidacloprid). Management recommendations for Q biotype are included in this newsletter and there is a link to a fact sheet and a website for further information.
