Cairns, Australia – A leading provider of supplies, and advice to Australian farmers, Ian Muir, has been recognised for his service to the industry, with the AUSVEG Industry Leader award.

AUSVEG CEO Mr Richard Mulcahy congratulated renowned industry figure Ian Muir, the Managing Director of Australian-owned family agribusiness, E.E Muir & and Sons, on the achievement, during a Gala Dinner event at the Cairns Convention and Exhibition centre on Saturday 21 June.

AUSVEG is the leading horticultural body representing Australia’s 9,000 vegetable and potato growers.

“The Industry Leader Award is a distinctive award from the others that have been announced during the Awards for Excellence as they are not awarded annually,” said Mr Mulcahy.

“Instead, this special award is only given when an outstanding candidate is identified as having worked passionately and tirelessly for the interests of the Australian vegetable and potato industries.
“Ian Muir certainly fits the bill.”

First established in 1927, E.E. Muir and Sons is now run jointly by brothers Ric and Ian Muir. The esteemed agribusiness specialises in the distribution of farm supplies, and the provision of agronomic advice to growers.

Under Mr Muir’s guidance, the business has expanded significantly to become one of the nation’s largest distributors, with a trusted brand and reputation.

“Ian Muir is renowned in the industry for his dedication and hard work, and is a highly-regarded, well-respected and influential figure,” said Mr Mulcahy.

“He is a worthy recipient of this award and I congratulate him on his achievements.”

The 2014 AUSVEG National Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner was held at the Cairns Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday 21 June, and honoured growers and other members of the Australian vegetable and potato industries for outstanding achievements in their respective fields.

The event – the biggest in Australian horticulture – attracted around 1,000 delegates.
