Recognising the ever-important roles women play within a traditionally male-dominated sector, the 2014 AUSVEG Women in Horticulture event will again feature prominently at this year’s AUSVEG National Convention, Trade Show and Awards for excellence in Cairns from June 19 to 21.

“Award winning rural and regional affairs reporter for The Australian, Sue Neales will deliver an inspiring keynote address to attendees, in what is sure to be a highlight of the event,” said AUSVEG spokesperson Felicity Powell.

Proudly sponsored by AUSVEG Strategic Partner Steritech, attendees will also be treated to an address from leading Gold Coast vegetable grower and 2013 Women in Horticulture Award winner, Belinda Adams.

“Last year’s Women in Horticulture celebration, which treated delegates to a keynote address by South Australian Senator Anne Ruston, was a great success. This year’s event is set to equal, if not surpass last year’s in terms of attendance.”

The event, on Saturday 21 June, will celebrate the numerous achievements of women within the Australian vegetable and potato industries, with an afternoon aboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway.

AUSVEG is the National Peak Industry Body representing Australia’s 9,000 vegetable and potato growers.

The Women in Horticulture Award, to be presented at the National Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner on Saturday 21 June, is one of the industry’s most prestigious.

“Together, the Women in Horticulture event and National Awards for Excellence will bring together some of the brightest female achievers in the vegetable and potato industries from across the country,” said Ms Powell.

“These are the wives, daughters and sisters who not only hold together our industry, but often are involved in running the family’s entire business, from paddock to plate.”
