AUSVEG acknowledges the Federal Court of Australia judgement dismissing the glyphosate class action.

Australian vegetable, potato and onion growers have a well-deserved, international reputation for producing high quality, safe, sustainable produce. It is a role the industry takes very seriously, along with its commitment to the health of farmers, their families, farm workers, communities and consumers.

This reputation has in no small part been achieved by following the advice and regulations set by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), Australia’s independent science-based regulatory agency.

The APVMA uses the best available science to ensure that all agricultural chemicals registered for legal use in Australia – including glyphosate – can be used in a manner that is safe to applicators, bystanders and the environment.

Glyphosate is widely used and very important to modern day farming systems, enabling more environmentally friendly farming by allowing farmers to control weeds from above the ground – substantially reducing the need to plough or till the soil. This in turn helps to maintain soil nutrients, improves water use efficiency, and reduces the need to use machinery and fossil fuels.
