AUSVEG SA will host a delegation of leading fresh produce importers as part of a reverse trade mission that will take place from 22 to 23 June 2015.

The delegation will visit leading producers, see the Adelaide Produce Market and have the opportunity to meet with government officials, wholesalers and growers in South Australia as part of the initiative to increase exports of vegetables from South Australia.

“With an extremely challenging domestic market and rising input costs, AUSVEG SA is actively working to assist the local industry to access opportunities in overseas markets to increase the profitability of the industry,” said AUSVEG SA State Manager Mr Jordan Brooke-Barnett.

“This initiative will enable international buyers to come here and experience first-hand the quality of vegetables available in the state and allow local growers to establish meaningful business relationships.”

“AUSVEG SA thinks this delegation will be a significant opportunity for the South Australian vegetable industry to develop networks and connections which will allow them to develop important export markets in Asia,” said Mr Brooke-Barnett.

The delegation will feature leading fresh produce buyers from markets including Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong where a softening dollar and increasing demand for Australia’s fresh and safe produce is fuelling increasing exports.

Australia’s exports of vegetables grew 3% to $256 million in 2013/14.

“It is important as an industry that vegetable growers are supported to capitalise on these flourishing markets in South East Asia”

”In addition to the reverse trade mission, AUSVEG SA recently brought a seminar to Adelaide in January which saw international trade experts address around 100 growers and has been actively working with industry to enhance the export potential of the local industry.”

This project has been funded by Horticulture Innovation Australia Ltd using the National Vegetable Levy and funds from the Australian Government.
