Western Australian hydroponic farmer, Danny Trandos, was presented with the Dow AgroSciences Young Grower of the Year award this evening at the 2013 AUSVEG National Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner at Jupiters Gold Coast, Queensland, in recognition of his significant contribution to horticulture.

“With an ageing labour force and succession planning challenges, it is now more imperative than ever to acknowledge the future leaders of the Australian vegetable industry for their contributions, achievements and triumphs,” said AUSVEG Chairman, John Brent.

“In his lead role with Trandos Hydroponic Growers, Danny has demonstrated his commitment to both his family’s world-class hydroponic growing operation and the wider vegetable industry,” said AUSVEG Chairman, John Brent.

Trandos Hydroponic Growers, located in Western Australia, is a leading supplier of vegetable seedlings and young plants to horticultural producers across the country.

AUSVEG Chairman, John Brent, congratulated Mr Trandos on his award, stating that AUSVEG had received an impressive amount of nominations across all National Awards for Excellence categories.

“I congratulate Danny on receiving this award and his commitment to our industry. Being a young person in our sector isn’t easy and recognising our youth is an important part of fostering our next generation of leaders,” said Mr Brent.

AUSVEG is the leading horticultural body representing Australia’s 9,000 vegetable and potato growers.

Sponsored by Dow AgroSciences, the Young Grower of the Year award is presented to a vegetable or potato grower that shows excellent business acumen and innovation and has applied it on-farm, along with a high level of commitment to the wider industry and participation in industry groups and community activities.

The 2013 AUSVEG National Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner was held at Jupiters Gold Coast, Queensland, on Saturday 1 June, and honoured growers and other members of the Australian vegetable and potato industries for outstanding achievements in their respective fields. 

The event – the biggest in Australian horticulture – saw an approximate 1,000 delegates in attendance.
