Mr John Gilmour, Horticulture Business Manager for Dow AgroSciences has won the prestigious special Industry Leader Award at the AUSVEG National Awards for Excellence on Saturday night.

The 2012 AUSVEG National Awards for Excellence gala dinner was held at Wrest Point Hotel Casino in Hobart on Saturday 12 May, which honoured growers and members of the Australian vegetable industry for outstanding achievements in their field.

 AUSVEG Chairman, John Brent, congratulated the Mr Gilmour, highlighting his tireless work on industry issues, including his efforts relating to Minor Use crop protectant use, an issue of great importance to the Australian vegetable industry.

“This represents an incredible achievement for Mr Gilmour, as this award is only presented when there is an outstanding candidate,” said AUSVEG Chairman, John Brent.

AUSVEG is the National Peak Industry Body representing the interests of approximately 9,000 vegetable and potato growers around Australia.

“John Gilmour is an outstanding leader within the Australian vegetable and potato industries, and thoroughly deserves this special award,” said Mr Brent.

“Along with his work in regard to minor use, John has been instrumental in organising briefings with Australian vegetable growers from Dow Agrosciences US-based management, an invaluable opportunity for the Australian vegetable growing community,” said Mr Brent.

“The Australian vegetable industry is fortunate to have dedicated members such as Mr Gilmour working to support it and this award ensures that his efforts over decades of service will not go unnoticed,” said Mr Brent.

The AUSVEG National Convention had over 800 delegates in attendance making it one of the biggest events in Australian horticulture.
