Aussie consumers, have no
fear – your Christmas dreams can still come true, as growers are working
overtime to ensure you have access to the high quality, tasty veggies that you
love for your Christmas feasts.

A wide variety of fresh, clean and safe vegetable produce will be available at
all major retailers, independent grocers and markets across the country, in
spite of increased demand and harsh weather conditions gripping Aussie growers.

“Supermarket shelves and market stalls will all be filled with fresh, high
quality vegetable produce for consumers leading into Christmas and the New
Year,” said AUSVEG spokesperson Shaun Lindhe.

“Aussies have a long tradition of stacking their plates with veggies for the
festive season, and this year will be no different for those who love their
veggies on Christmas Day.”

“Harsh weather conditions that have afflicted the country in recent weeks
present challenges for growers, including unseasonable heatwaves in southern
Australia, fires in the country’s west and south and freak storms on the
Eastern seaboard, but this will not stop them from putting clean, green and
safe vegetables on Aussie plates.”

“This is also great news for Santa’s reindeer, given Rudolf and the gang can’t
wait to deliver presents to Aussie homes and eat some of the tasty, healthy
carrots and other veggie treats that families leave for them to fuel their busy
Christmas Eve.”

AUSVEG is the leading horticultural body representing over 9,000 Australian
vegetable and potato growers.

“There’s no question that Australian growers are doing it tough as they
continue to face increasingly difficult times due to tighter profit margins,
harsh environmental conditions and increasing costs,” said Mr Lindhe.

“That being said, our growers are hardworking, dedicated and the best in the
world at their craft, continuing to feed a growing population with high quality
clean, green and safe vegetables all year round.”

“Aussie consumers love to include lots of veg for their festive feasts during
the holiday season, and have the availability of the freshest produce to feed
their families and loved ones this Christmas and New Year.”
