South Australian potato growers and processors will gather in Hahndorf on Thursday to hear an update on industry research and development (R&D), discuss ideas for industry development and learn about irrigation efficiency during a Regional Potato Levy Payers’ Meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Hahndorf Old Mill Hotel from 12:00pm – 2:00pm on September 18.

“Regional Levy Payers’ Meetings are extremely valuable, as they provide growers and processors with the opportunity to hear about new R&D and give direct feedback to their industry representatives. This ensures growers and processors play a key role in guiding the future of their industry,” said AUSVEG spokesperson Andrew MacDonald.

“The meeting will also give growers and processors the opportunity to hear from leading industry experts, and provide an open forum to discuss their key issues.”

The Hahndorf Levy Payers’ Meeting is the last in a series of four meetings running across Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia this week, hosted by AUSVEG and Horticulture Australia Limited (HAL).

The meeting will also feature Mrs Sue Hinton, an Industry Development and Extension Officer at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, who will discuss irrigation efficiency for potato crops.

AUSVEG Special Projects Coordinator Mr Alexander Miller will also provide an update on the Potato Industry Extension Program, while representatives from AUSVEG and HAL will give industry and R&D updates.

“Industry R&D is aimed at delivering benefits to potato levy payers and it is vital that growers and processors are engaged with the R&D program and process. Through meetings such as these, we can ensure growers and processors take a lead role in guiding the future of their industry,” said Mr MacDonald.

AUSVEG is the leading horticultural body representing more than 2,000 Australian potato growers.

Potato levy payers interested in attending the workshop are asked to contact AUSVEG on (03) 9882 0277 or info@ausveg.com.au to register.

Industry communication is facilitated by HAL using the National Potato Levies and matched funds from the Australian Government.
