The Industry Recognition Award, sponsored by DuPont, was presented to Ms Denise Kreymborg of Bowen, Queensland, tonight during the 2012 AUSVEG National Awards for Excellence.

The 2012 AUSVEG National Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner was held at Wrest Point Hotel Casino in Hobart on Saturday 12 May, which honoured growers and other members of the Australian vegetable and potato industries for outstanding achievements in their field.

AUSVEG Chairman, John Brent, paid tribute to Ms Kreymborg’s valuable contribution to the industry, noting the importance of attracting younger workers to the Australian horticulture industry.

“Ms Kreymborg’s efforts to promote working in the Australian horticulture industry are significant and she deserves our thanks and recognition,” said Mr Brent.

“If we are to reverse the skilled labour shortage that currently exists in rural areas and address the fact that many Australian growers are nearing retirement, we’ll need to continue to promote the horticulture industry as a rewarding and viable career path,” said Mr Brent.

AUSVEG is the National Peak Industry Body representing the interests of around 9,000 vegetable and potato growers around Australia.

Ms Kreymborg was recognised for her work in helping to boost the profile of the horticulture industry as a worthwhile career path, as well as driving horticultural apprenticeships.

The Industry Recognition Award winner was also acknowledged for helping to lift the profile of women in horticulture and for the ongoing support she has provided for other women in the industry.

The AUSVEG National Convention was attended by over 800 delegates from across the country and is now the biggest annual horticulture event in Australia.
