Reverse Trade Mission highlights best of Aussie vegetables
International retailers, importers and wholesalers from nine export markets across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East are due to land in Perth on Wednesday 10 May to attend the annual Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) delivered by AUSVEG and commissioned by Horticulture Innovation Australia.
The 2017 RTM brings a delegation of over 30 leading international fresh produce buyers from markets as diverse as Kuwait and Taiwan to Western Australia to visit leading vegetable producers, and attend the Hort Connections conference in Adelaide.
“Australia currently exports over $230 million of fresh vegetables per year, and has the potential for further growth,” said AUSVEG National Manager – Export Development Michael Coote.
“The industry is seeking to increase this to $330 million per year by 2020 – a 40 per cent increase – in line with the recently released Vegetable Industry Export Strategy 2020.
“The 2017 RTM is an industry-led event that gives vegetable growers from across the country the opportunity to connect with fresh produce buyers from key export markets to help the industry achieve its export targets over the coming years.”
RTM delegates will visit many leading vegetable farms and the Perth Wholesale Markets while in Western Australia. The group will then attend the Hort Connections conference in Adelaide to network with vegetable growers from across Australia at events such as the Produce Display for international buyers.
AUSVEG, with Horticulture Innovation Australia and Austrade, developed a program that aims to strengthen existing relationships, cultivate new relationships with key trading partners, and highlights Australia’s attributes as a reliable trading partner for safe, high-quality fresh produce.
“This trade mission gives international buyers a great opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of how Australian produce is grown, and highlights that Australia can supply high-quality, safe vegetables year-round,” said Mr Coote.
“We are confident that the networks formed during this Mission will result in increased exports for Australian growers, and will enable Australian vegetables to be promoted throughout a number of pre-existing and new markets.”
