Leading Tasmanian vegetable grower and exporter Harvest Moon has been awarded the Exporter of the Year award at the Hort Connections 2019 National Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner in Melbourne on Wednesday 26 June.

The Exporter of the Year recognises an individual or business who is committed to exporting and actively contributes to activities to assist the industry increase its exports.

“Harvest Moon is a Tasmanian success story. The business has grown significantly and now supplies over 90,000 tonnes of vegetables annually. Harvest Moon is a successful exporter, and its brand of carrots, broccoli, celery and leeks are well-known in major supermarkets in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan,” said AUSVEG CEO James Whiteside.

“As one of the first exporters in Tasmania, Harvest Moon provides consistent supply to its international customers, and continues to support the vegetable industry’s Export Program and Taste Australia initiatives.

“The vegetable industry has increased its focus on boosting the value and volume of vegetable exports and is well on its way to reach the ambitious target of AUD$315 million in fresh vegetable exports by 2020 as outlined by the industry’s export strategy.

“There was a number of highly successful horticultural exporters nominated for this award, with each business contributing significantly to their industry’s success in increasing the value of their exports.

“Harvest Moon is a prime example of the success that a business can achieve when it embraces the opportunities that are available in export markets. Harvest Moon is a deserving recipient of this award and I look forward to seeing what it can offer local and international consumers into the future.”

The Hort Connections 2019 National Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner honoured growers and other members of the Australian horticulture industry for their outstanding achievements. The dinner was the capstone event of Hort Connections 2019, which drew around 3,500 local and international delegates to the premier event in Australian horticulture.
