Silvio Favero, a vegetable grower from Melbourne’s outskirts, was tonight awarded the AUSVEG Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Awards for Excellence in Cairns, Queensland.

AUSVEG is the leading horticultural body representing Australia’s 9,000 vegetable and potato growers.

The Cranbourne grower, who operates Favero Gardens, was recognised for his incredible contribution to the Australian vegetable industry over his lifetime with the special award, which was announced by AUSVEG Chairman Geoff Moar at the Cairns Convention Centre this evening.

AUSVEG CEO Richard Mulcahy said that Mr Favero deserved to be recognised for his incredible contribution to the Australian vegetable industry, his role within the Celery and Brussels Sprout Growers Association, and long-time participation in AUSVEG’s EnviroVeg program.

“Silvio is an exemplary grower who has worked tirelessly on industry issues above and beyond those affecting his own business.”

“He consistently engages with the industry and strives for excellence in his every endeavour.”

“For this, he is entirely deserving of this Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Mr Mulcahy.

Mr Favero has previously served on the Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee, the committee that guides the investment of the National Vegetable Levy into research and development projects for the industry, as well as serving as a past Chairman of AUSVEG.

The 2014 AUSVEG National Awards for Excellence are the horticulture industry’s premier awards and recognise leaders across multiple areas of the Australian vegetable industry.
