The aim of this project was to develop a strategy for controlling slugs in processing vegetable crops based on existing information from previous Australian studies (mostly in broad-acre crops). Some field observations from Tasmanian crops were made to help develop the strategy. Relevant information has been collated and presented in a format that is appropriate for the end users of this research. This information includes: a guide to the most common species of slugs, cultural or management options that can have a positive or negative impact on slugs, the potential use of beneficial insects within an IPM system to help maintain a low population of slugs, why baiting does not always work, and how to control slugs using the tools that are currently available.
