Foliar diseases in greenhouse vegetables
This newsletter outlines the aims of a research project examining the foliar diseases in greenhouse vegetables and reports on the results of a survey conducted in 2006 to determine the main foliar diseases and current management strategies in greenhouse-grown cucumbers, capsicums, eggplants and tomatoes. The project commenced in June 2006 and ended in May 2009. Other project aims include: examination of the environmental conditions most suitable for disease development; determination of areas in which disease management can be improved; evaluation of alternative fungicides , environmental controls and resistant varieties; and development of integrated management programs for foliar diseases. The survey found that growers were concerned about fungicide resistance management, there was often a lack of hygiene inside and outside the greenhouses, etc.
