This newsletter is an update on the research project aimed at improving the sustainability of foliar disease management in greenhouse vegetables. Correct disease identification is a critical first step. Manipulation of the greenhouse climate (temperature, relative humidity etc) is discussed in terms of helping minimise the risk of disease, eg by venting the greenhouse to reduce humidity. Preliminary results from testing of fungicides and “soft” products are discussed and the importance of incorporating fungicides from different activity groups is hightlighted as a means of reducing the risk of fungicide resistance. Integrated disease management is defined, including a list of strategies that are used in combination to manage diseases in a sustainable way.
